Urgent appeal from the people of Rakeedhoo

Dear Mr. President of Maldives,

This is an urgent appeal from smallest inhabited island in the nation. We are small in size, population is countable by fingers but as a human being there are some wants and needs which we don’t have among us. We may not have solitary confinement experience as you. But you could not image the circumstances we have in our lovely small island.

Dear president, could you image an island without a school, without adequate medical facilities, and last but not lest we don’t have proper harbor as well, it may be hard to believe to some human being in this nation. But I’m sorry to reveal the fact this is the situation in our island. Could you image the hardship of us? Especially there is no fundamental education in the island; hence even now almost all the children who are seeking for education are living other islands of the nation. Consequently they have been deprived from their parents care and love. You have been imprisoned for years constantly and you have expressed your loneliness feelings to the public. Dear Mr. President Can you visualize the feeling of those children’s parents? Dear President you have been this small islet once during your presidential campaign. We believe you should have enough experience the harbor we have in the island.

Dear President. Once you elected as the president we hope our situation would be alter. But so far there is no action to bring us to a better position. Hence due to lack of anticipation and lack of passion from your regime day by day our population is scattering throughout the nation. This is something we don’t want, we used have very good rapport among us. But due to consequence they have no choice.

For a protracted period of time we have been convinced by development of second biggest reclamation project in the nation “Development of Bodumohora” but so far there is no optimism.

Dear President still we are Optimists, but our prospects are in the hand of Allah and you.

But to live as a human being we need better place to live. We believe still we are not in “ Aneh dhivehiraahje” Think twice!

Wish you challenging but fortunate days ahead.

Thanks
On behalf of Rakeedhoo peoples

If the people of Rakeedhoo have voted for Gayoom and his cronies in the past, please direct this appeal to DRP

I just saw this booklet Dr. Hassan Saeed had published about Anni. I suggest he write 50 advices he gave to Gayoom to torture more people of Maldives

Let us all say good bye to Gayoom, Gasim and Hassan Saaed. The only they want is to become the President. They may have golden ideas, but none is capable to resolve the problems we are facing today.

I urgently appeal to the remaining people of Rakeedhoo to seek to be relocated to a bigger island in an area of the Maldives where it is feasible even for President Nasheed or for anyone else in a position of power or policy making authority to propose a workable solution for your problems.
For any sane government it is not possible to build harbours jetties hospitals schools etc etc on each small island among the 200 inhabited islands in the Maldives especially if there is a few hundred inhabitants. It will not work. Economics and logistics dictate that. Even if one were to build a school or a hospital logic says they cannot be manned. There cannot be sufficient no of patients for a hospital to run.
The solution is to move to a location like Addu or Kulhudhuffushi. I know you may see my comments as too radical or even cruel. But it is not. I mean really well. The reality is you have to think out of the box if you want build a better future for you and your children. Wake up, people of Rakeedhoo !
A Well wisher.

Oh poor Rakeedhoo people. What did their MP Abdulla Shahid do for them all these years? Why didn't he make their voices be heard in the parliament. I hope they do not elect him or any DRP guy this time.

Who ever wrote this on behalf of Rakeedhoo people? You said that your population is countable by fingers, so I assume it would be few hundred if not few tens. Not even the richest country on earth can provide the services you mentioned for a few 100 people. What you should understand is that Maldives is a state funded and run by its people and you are a minority of the minority, and the majority of the people do not want to spend our money on providing a fully functioning hospital, 12th grade school, 24 hour electric powder house, an airport, a dredged harbor with sea walls, paved roads etc, etc, for each 100 people. This is practically impossible and should be beyond anyone’s wildest dream. I am surprised that a person who I believe is well educated wrote such an article with an 18th century demand. We are in 21st century. Our old friend Maumoon and Hameed promised to do the things you appealed now, but as we all agree, they failed. They failed simply because they tried to do something which is practically no feasible. I suggest and appeal to the small population of Rakeedhoo to ask the President to relocate you to another populated island. Your problem will be solved once and for all.

Your claim is lawful and right! But there are larger populations who are suffering more than your people. And the president needs time to take us to 'Aneh Dhivehiraajje'. It's not we have travelled to Aneh Dhivehiraajje from 11 Nov 2008. No people are yet in Aneh Dhivehiraajje. We are working for and on the jorney to Aneh Dhivehiraajje. Perhaps how many of Rakeedhoo people are ready to migrate to a better place. We, in Laamu have land for you. Come and live with us a better life. No Maldivian now belongs to 'a particular island' but we all belong to'dhivehiraajje' according to the Ammended Constitution. Moreover, people from any where in Maldives are given a 3000sqft plot of land in Gan. For your information and others. I would advise you to be calm and check for grammatical and spelling mistakes in your future articles before you get it published. Do comment on my blog if you wish.

I am a resident of Male'. This place is congested beyond anyone's imagination. I would gladly move to Rakeedhoo for a different experience. It sounds like paradise.

Dear writer,It is a big shame of you to go on demanding for such facilities for your island, from the government.Your letter really reflects us the peasantry thinking and narrowness of your mind.

First of all,you must have started a programme to encourage the finger-countable population of your island with the idea of MOVING TO ANOTHER BIGGER ISLAND to seek for better life.

Do you have any clue of the cost of the facilities you have mentioned in your letter? Do you think it's wise to appeal the government to provide such costy facilities upon only 100 people or it's better moving to bigger well-facilitated island?

Why don't you go with tiny bottle to meet the president Nasheed at mosque just after the Friday prayer (Hukuru Namaadh)asking him to put all the prayers into the bottle?

Brother! Think wisely and move to another bigger island for better life.

I appreciate the manner in which this appeal has forwarded to the President of the Maldives. I hope, in spite of his busy schedule in nation building task, the president of the Maldives reads all the articles posted in various print media concerning Maldives and its inhabitants.

I have another reason to appreciate this article. Unlike, other islands in the Maldives, people of this island have not protested. They haven’t closed the island office (I am not sure whether an island office exists in Rakeedhoo); they have not even taken any government official as hostages, like few other islands people did in the past.

I too share the concern of the people of Rakeedhoo, being a Maldivian citizen, who once lived in a far off island; I do understand that the people of Rakeedhoo need a school, health centre, harbour and other employment generating projects.

Having said this, I earnestly appeal to the people of Rakeedhoo to wait for some more months. There are many islands in the Maldives. All the inhabited islands are not the same in development. The previous government developed only those islands, which supported their policies and literally punished the people of other islands, who protested against the previous government. The policy of the previous government, patronizing only those islands which supported the blind regime got more attention and left other islands people to suffer in their own way. The development had not taken place for the last 30 years. The income of the nation was spent to decorate the Theemuge and finance the luxurious living.

At this juncture, the present government, which has not even completed four full months in office, how can we expect to cater to the needs of the all the islands and its people, when there is no money left in the coffer?

The president has clearly spelt out in his address to the members of the parliament that he has a definite plan to come out from the economic crisis that the nation faces. I would call upon my fellow citizens to give free hand to the present government to stabilize the present economic condition and mitigate the problems that the people face in all the islands. It will take years together to develop all the islands. In my opinion, to bring back the lost glory of the Maldives (to reap the harvest and enjoy prosperity), all the people should support the democratically elected government and contribute in his/her own way to the cause of nation building.

It is advisable not to ask “What the government has done for me?” But it is advisable to ask, “What I can do for my nation?”

Hardships makes one turn humbly towards Allah, someone once said,"How perfect is Allah,Who has elicited supplication through hardship."
Hardship should make us grateful for having been saved from that which is greater than the hardship with which we have been afflicted.
Furthermore,hardship atones for sins.

can you imagine the economic downturn the country is facing and the proportionately hgih amount needed to spend on such a small population. I went there in 2006 and the island has most basic facilities such as school. please think rationally and think how much others are also suffering from basic rights. We cannot undertake such an immense project given the current economic scenario. So please be patient and wait for the right time. this is the time we should think of living to the maximum with what we have as the country is under ahuge debt.please be considerate as you have been patience for 30 or more years, why cant you wait for another 2 or 3 years

Why don't you guys ask the government to assist in relocation rather than asking to build schools, hospitals and other amenities. It would be hard naturally to build these facilities for 100 people when there are 1000 people in another island partly deprived of these facilities. Rakeedhoo, or any other island for that matter, gotta get self-reliant and seek viable solutions rather than weeping at government's feet. There are things you guys can do. Trying to live there is just ridiculous.

i have been there twice. i also feel very for rakeedhoo people. they almost they have nothing. last time i was there was last year eid holiday. i know they are very kind and hospitality for each of them and the visitors. in simple they work together despiting any disagreement which may arise. they worked as a team. with in just two days. i was a friend of every one on the island. for me its a haven on earth.but i also noticed they have no school, no educate health center, and no harbor. in simple all of them want move some where else, towards better felicities. with lots of youth and young children (most of them studying different places and just came for holidays)i enjoyed two day perfectly. another point i saw some kids about two three years old. i was shocked as i image future of them, cos now if their parents should be some where else.(if they want some education for their children) another point i noticed was there are no drug abusers in the island. so they don't want move some where where social problems are at highest. some have different planes as well. in general they are the best people i have ever met in my life. the island is smaller than Kudabandos. but they have very good team work, and very friendly. dear president please fulfill their dreams as much as you could. Dear people of rakeedhoo. i feel condemns for you. and wish a better future...

Move the entire population of Vaavu atoll to Meemu and change these islands for resorts. The money they earn can build houses for these people in Meemu atoll. Problems solved.

Hey all who commented... I am not the writer of this article.. But for those who said he thought in a very narrow scope, I would say its you people who have a narrow mind... Its not only Rakeedhoo.. Vaavu atoll is the smallest in the Nation.. So the development of Bodumohoraa would not only benefit the residents of Rakeedhoo. but also for the residents of other four inhabited islands.. There are people who want move... not only Vaavu. Residents of Faafu even.
And whats the use of thinking politically for this issue.. its serious.. And those who say to migrate Laamu or else where. I would say how can they go with "bare feet". There should be support. Government should provide it and ask for it as how they asked. And by the way how you all can say its economically not feasible. It is. There are many islands which could be converted to resorts and else, with a small cost.. And no reason in telling "Aneh dhivehiraaje"
